Then vs. Than
THEN is an adverb of time. THAN is a conjunction used in clauses of comparison.
Example:
- He then finished his project. (This tells when he finished)
- Little Sarah behaved better this week than last week. (This compares her behaviour this week to her behaviour last week)
THEN - relates to TIME:
- Subsequently or afterwards (ex. Go 3 km north, then east.)
- In that case... (ex. If you don't like the dress, then return it to the store.)
- At that time... (ex. The package will be here before then.)
THAN - relates to COMPARISONS:
- Betty is taller than Cathy.
- A cheetah runs faster than a leopard.
